Artificial Intelligence to fight back drug trafficking. Sociography participates in the European project ARIEN

Sociography is one of the partners of the European project Horizon Europe ARIEN-Artificial IntelligencE in fighting illicit drug production and traffickiNg. The project was designed around the EU Action Plan against Drugs 2021-2025. Using a holistic approach to innovation and Artificial Intelligence tools, it aims to create an intelligence framework that, in real time, supports the monitoring of drug production and trafficking in Europe, considering the physical and digital dimensions. ARIEN's multidisciplinary research adopts a co-creation strategy, addressing criminological, social and legislative aspects, focusing on knowledge of the phenomenon and strengthening intelligence, improving the investigative capabilities of Law Enforcement Agencies and promoting a more effective international cooperation.

The role of Sociography is to:

• provide an updated knowledge base on international drug trafficking, especially with respect to the role of new technologies and the continuous diffusion of synthetic substances

• collect and process the needs and requirements of the Police Forces and Border Authorities involved in the project

• develop the use cases and scenarios that will be used to test the technological features developed by ARIEN

• develop the methodology and carry out the impact assessment

• support the development of training curricula
